Mattel Sequence

What It Is

This is Mattel Sequence, a board game for when you've got a few people and don't want anything too complicated. It's for ages 8 and up, so kids can play, but it's not so simple that adults will be bored out of their minds. You can play with two people or up to six.

How It Works

You're trying to get a sequence of five chips in a row, either across, down, or diagonally. You play a card from your hand, then put a chip on the corresponding space on the board. Jacks are wild, which means they can be a bit of a pain for whoever is trying to build their sequence. There are two kinds of Jacks: one lets you place a chip anywhere, and the other lets you remove an opponent's chip. It's a mix of luck with the cards you draw and strategy with where you decide to place your chips and when to use those Jacks.

Who's It For?

If you're looking for a game that's easy to learn but still has some thinking involved, this fits the bill. It's good for family game nights or just a casual get-together with friends. The age range of 8-12 years means it's easy to use for younger players, but the strategy keeps it from being boring for older kids or adults.
